Accidental Discovery of Nerium:
Nerium Skin Care come from a company called Nerium International and is a revolutionary breakthrough in anti-aging skincare, and ironically enough is a result of an accidental discovery in biotechnology research. Nerium Scin Care is partnered with Nerium Biotechnologyfor worldwide exclusive rights.
30 percent of profits go back to Nerium Biotechnology’s research.
Nerium Skin Care is the only company that has the capability to harness the power of the Nerium oleander plant. Nerium Skin Care addresses the appearance of wrinkles, discoloration, texture, ect. Nerium controls the main active ingredient from seed to bottle and has a patent for NAE-8 extract.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –There’s a good chance you or someone you know is putting on a new face product known as Nerium.
The night cream promises to have you waking up with an improved appearance from aging or sun-damaged skin.
“I’ve definitely heard a lot about it,” says April Loehr, an esthetician with Garrison Plastic Surgery.
“I thought it would probably be a good thing to possibly look in to it,” says Krista Murphy, an esthetician at Grove Spa.
Murphy, who does not sell Nerium or work for a spa that does, first learned about the age-defying treatment through Facebook. After one week of using Nerium, along with a PCA skin peel, she noticed a slight improvement in her skin.
“I saw some tightening around my eye area, around the orbital bone and fine lines and wrinkles and then some slight tightening of my nasal lavial folds.”
The new night cream launched a year ago and already has some skin experts questioning its overnight success.
“Not one product can really cure every skin issue,” adds Loehr. She says Nerium may temporarily hydrate and smooth the skin. As for long term results, “the biggest thing people need to realize with a product like Nerium or any line that is not medical grade. It’s not getting into the dermal layers of your skin, so it’s not going to be correcting anything.”
Like all non-medical grade cosmetics, Nerium is not required to be tested or approved by the FDA, meaning it’s free to make any claim and market the product any way.
“It’s an actual very toxic plant,” says Loehr.
According to Nerium’s website, its key ingredient is an extract of the nerium oleander plant — a plant the American Cancer Society says is highly poisonous and can be dangerous depending on how it’s used.
Online, the company also says it, “continues to work directly with theUniversity of Texas MD Anderson cancer center in its research of the plant.”
However, in an article published by the center in August, it states MD Anderson has not authorized the use of its name in connection with the product and does not vouch for Nerium’s effectiveness or safety.
If you’ve heard of Nerium before, odds are it was from one of its brand partners. Nerium is structured as a multi-level marketing company, meaning when you buy an $80 bottle, the person who sold it to you and everyone else they’ve gotten to sell the product cashes in.
“Because it is a pyramid-type business, we as a medical facility can’t really sell it without marking that product up and then re-selling it to clients,” says Loehr.
Although the spas like the one Loehr works for find no financial benefit from selling Nerium, the company claims brand partners can earn an iPad, a Lexus car bonus and vacation for selling the product.
KOLR10 News asked local brand partners to talk about Nerium’s success in Springfield; however, we were told they would be terminated from the company if they spoke with the media.
Phone calls to co-founder Dennis Windsor were finally returned by email two weeks after we first contacted him, just hours before this story went to air.
He sent KOLR10 News a 17-page document (below) that details the safety testing on the product and why the company says the product is safe. He also talked with us about why the company chose the multi-level marketing platform versus a national distributor.
“The direct sales industry is a 100-year-old industry,” says Windsor. “You know Mary Kay and Tupperware and a lot of great brands were created. It’s a crazy economy. The direct sales industry is a fabulous way to help the common person make a part time income or potentially an even better income.”
